Trademarks signatures 19th and 20th century
The talent has always crossed the centuries and it is the same for ceramics. However, it was not common to see any sign of decoration for tableware or other utilitarian and decorative earthenware objects. A minor art in consideration perhaps until a certain time? At Longwy, there is no artist's signature until the mid-19th century. But a great period in the history of painting will cross this barrier because the contribution of new earthenware techniques will allow Impressionist artists to give life to their talent on a new support with the painting of the technique called "à la barbotine" and traditional on faience.

Signatures in the 19th century are essentially hand-made, and in the 20th century the new wave will use printing as either a unique signature, in the setting, or in the stamp bearing the name of the work and that of the artist. Some however will be handwritten for unique pieces by Paul MIGNON & Christian LECLERCQ or black earthenware by Louis VALENTI. Also note that after the Great War, the booster will be given the right to write their initials by hand and then on personal printed marks.
